Traveling Purchasing Agent
Traveling Purchasing Agent
Location: Nationwide Travel (Multi-State)
Schedule: Full-Time | Tuesday–Saturday (Travel Required)
Reports To: Purchasing Manager / Director of Operations
Position Overview
The Traveling Purchasing Agent represents The Great American Roadshow at buying events, pop-up roadshows, and temporary locations across the United States. You’ll evaluate, negotiate, and purchase jewelry, precious metals, coins, collectibles, and other high-value items directly from the public—while delivering a professional, ethical, and customer-focused experience.
This role requires strong product knowledge, integrity, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while traveling.
Key Responsibilities:
Purchasing & Evaluation
- Evaluate and purchase items including: gold, silver, platinum, fine jewelry, coins, bullion, watches, handbags, collectibles, antiques, and specialty items
- Test, weigh, authenticate, and grade items accurately
- Negotiate fair market pricing while protecting company margins
- Explain values, offers, and processes clearly to customers
Customer Experience
- Provide a respectful, transparent buying experience
- Build trust through clear communication and ethical practices
- Handle questions and objections calmly and confidently
- Maintain a polished and professional appearance
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete all required paperwork and purchase documentation accurately
- Verify seller identity and ownership statements
- Follow state and local secondhand dealer laws and hold requirements
- Maintain accurate records (including audio/video when required)
- Maintain inventory counts and chain-of-custody procedures
Shipping & Inventory Control
- Package, label, and ship purchased items to company standards
- Ensure accurate counts, descriptions, and values on shipments
- Report discrepancies, damage, or losses immediately
- Maintain responsibility for equipment and inventory while traveling
Travel & Event Operations
- Travel regularly to assigned cities and states for multi-day events
- Assist with setup and breakdown when needed
- Work independently and as part of a small traveling team
- Adapt to different venues, markets, and customer demographics
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience buying jewelry, precious metals, coins, or collectibles
- Strong understanding of market pricing and valuation principles
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- High honesty, professionalism, and accountability
- Comfortable handling large-dollar transactions
- Ability to travel frequently and work extended event hours
- Valid driver’s license and clean background
Preferred Qualifications
- Industry certifications or formal training (coins, jewelry, watches, etc.)
- Experience with roadshows, pop-ups, or traveling buying events
- Familiarity with secondhand dealer compliance requirements
- Bilingual skills a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- Commission: Up to 10%* based on performance, profitability, and compliance standards
- Performance-based bonuses available in addition to commission
- All approved travel expenses covered per company policy
- Opportunity for advancement into Senior Buyer or Management roles

Work Environment
This position involves frequent travel, extended hours during events, standing for long periods, and handling valuable merchandise. The ideal candidate is adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in fast-paced, customer-facing environments.
